TORAK

Torak wasn't wrong. They both needed a good hot shower. Both of their bodies were sticky with the remnants of their sex, and Jyasna's hair was damp with sweat.

Stepping into the shower, he watched her combing through her tresses with her fingers, carefully lathering them with sweet-scented shampoo before letting the hot water run down her body, hugging her curves and drawing his eyes down to the little dark spots where his fingers had left their mark on her during their passion.

After their bodies were cleaned and she had pressed him up against the cool shower wall more than once to plant succulent kisses across his chest and onto his lips, she turned off the water and handed him a towel. He lingered in the bathroom, drying himself off as she went into her bedroom, pulling on an oversized shirt and some loose fitting shorts.

This was the part he was most afraid of. The part where the warm glow of their lovemaking had worn off, and she had to look him in the eye again. She might send him away. People were unpredictable.

He came out of the bathroom at last, grabbed his boxers and pulled them on, and then reached for his pants.

"Where are you going?" She asked, her brows creased with worry.

He looked down at the pants hanging loosely from his hand.

"You weren't just going to walk out of here, were you?" She batted her eyelashes playfully, coming to the edge of the bed on her knees.

Delicately, she plucked the pants from his fingers, letting them fall to the floor, and then she tugged at his arms until he crawled up on to the bed alongside her. She waited for him to get settled under the blankets just like before, and then she snuggled up next to him, pulling his arm around her as she pressed her ass back into the curve of his body.

"Jyasna, I don't know if I can-"

"I know," she said simply. "I know that it's going to be hard, and there will be bad days. But I want you to know that you are safe, here with me."

He didn't know what he had done to deserve such a stroke of good luck in his life, why the universe had blessed him with Jyasna's kindness when he was at his lowest, but he believed her.

Torak woke. His heart was racing and his breathing came in great, labored gasps. He sat up, staring wildly around in the dark, disoriented and scared.

"Torak?" Jyasna's sleepy voice came to him from another realm. "Hey, it's okay."

He felt a hand on his shoulder and jumped away, growling defensively as he rolled to the floor and crouched low.

Growling again, he relaxed his muscles, slumping against the side of the bed and burying his face in the blankets. His shoulders shook with grief as all the fear and pain of his nightmares passed through him, breaking him for the thousandth time since the night he'd been arrested.

He sat on the floor, wracked by sobs, until Jyasna crawled over to him on the bed and rested her head against his.
